Can I Upgrade My GPD Pocket from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro?

I have Pro on my desktops and laptops. There are some features that are in Pro that are not included in Home so I would prefer to run Pro if it can be done. I have a MSDN Pro key code that I can use to activate it.

For laptops that install as Windows Home Edition, upgrade to Pro.

Enter the Windows 10 Pro Default key under change product key.

To switch product keys, open Settings and go to Update & security > Activation > Change Product key.

Once you have done this, the system will go through an upgrade process from Home to Pro, but will not be activated on Pro.

As you can see from the above, while this will upgrade your copy of Windows 10 Home to Pro, what it won't do is activate it. If you decide you like the Pro version, you will need your own product key to activate the OS and use it permanently.

I just tried this procedure on my GPD Pocket and it didn't work. Windows would not accept the default key for doing the upgrade. Next I entered my Microsoft Retail key and that did work and allowed Windows to download the files and install them. Now I have Windows 10 x64 Pro running on my GPD Pocket.

Here is my sequence of procedures for installing Windows Pro.


Install Windows Home

To change screen from portrait to landscape, Display Settings, Rotation

Change font to 150 or 175 to be able to read the tiny print.

Since Home was already activated previously, it will install and be activated once I enter my purchased Pro key code.

Enter the Pro key to upgrade to Pro.

Next download all Microsoft updates.

Install any GPD drivers not installed by Microsoft and any other drivers you might need like your printer driver.

Install programs and utilities that you intend to use.
