BIOS update for Spectre and Meltdown issues

Hi folks,

the current discussion of the Spectre and Meltdown issues in Intel CPUs imply that the GPD Pocket - or better its CPU Atom Z8750 - is affected. At least the Spectre 2 issue can not be fixed by the OS - either Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04. A firmware update to the Atom CPU is required, which in turn will require a BIOS update to roll it out to the GPD pcoket.

What are the plans to provide this type of update?

Are there any plans on a BIOS update to fix this vulnerability? When approximately can we expect it to be released?

Dear all. CPU microcode is typically part of BIOS, but be arefull. New BIOS is not necessary on linux.

New CPU microcode is submited into all linux repositories. Linux kernel load new microcode on every boot.
If you have linux, check installed intel-microcode:
apt-cache show intel-microcode | grep Version
Version: 3.20180108.0+really20170707ubuntu16.04.1
Version: 3.20151106.1
So, this version is from 8th Januarry 2018. Lot of code is fixed, but intell will relase some new version witl all fixes in future.

But windows have not this feature, you should use thit party ulity or wait to update BIOS from GPD.
